New York City - Be Original Americas, the nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting original design, is now accepting student applications for their second annual summer design fellowship program. The fellowship is an unparalleled opportunity for two college students to gain real world experience about all it takes to make, distribute, and sell great design from industry leading companies in New York City and across the country.
In this 7-week immersive program, which will run from June 12 – August 1, 2017, two college students will be introduced to all facets of creating innovative, original products, from research, design, and manufacturing to marketing, sales, and distribution through hands-on, in-the-field learning. The fellowship will focus on the various aspects of the design process from the perspective of Be Original Americas member companies, supplemented by visits to their showrooms, headquarters, and factories in New York City and throughout the United States.
“You can only learn so much in school, but until you see how everything works together in the industry, you can’t fully understand what you’re even designing. This experience exposed me to so many new things that I had never heard of before.” said 2016 Fellow, Sarah Ahart, about the inaugural program.
Participating member companies to date for the 2017 program include: Bernhardt Design, Carnegie, Design Within Reach, Emeco, Flavor Paper, Herman Miller, Rich Brilliant Willing, and Vitra. The Be Original Americas Summer Fellowship program is open to undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of study and who reside in the United States.
