Urban Green Expo Deemed a Success

NEW YORK – Young architects and designers got a look at the new Manhattan headquarters of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF)—which is expected to receive LEED® Gold certification—at a recent Emerging Professionals event that was held to kick off the 2010 Urban Green Expo in New York City.

Those at the event included KPF associate principal Michael Cluff, Russell Unger and Yetsuh Frank of the Urban Green Council, and sponsors and exhibitors at the week's expo.

Among the expo sponsors at the networking event was MechoShade Systems, an international manufacturer of window-shade systems—which, like KPF, also happens to be in the middle of seeking LEED Gold certification, for the renovation of its own headquarters in Long Island City.

KPF also designed Citigroup's Court Square Two—one of only two other LEED Gold projects in Long Island City—which is visible from MechoShade Systems' doorstep, according to Dan Silver, MechoShade Systems' manager of marketing and communications.

"It's always interesting to see what our colleagues in the architectural community are doing," notes Silver. "But seeing what KPF is doing at their headquarters is particularly interesting to us, seeing as how they also did the work for a LEED Gold project that's right down the street from us."
