Project Description

The project is to design a workplace for a mid-size apparel company with a strong retail presence throughout the United States relocating 93 members of their corporate workforce in support of the company’s overall real estate consolidation efforts. The target consumer for this company ranges from 25-35 years of age and are progressive in nature. The average age of the corporate staff is 38, but collectively ages range from 25-60.

The design of the workplace should support the company’s overall desire to enhance creativity and collaboration among employees, while serving as an example of their commitment to sustainability and fiscal responsibility. Key elements to be considered for the new location include:

  • Branding of the space to reinforce the name and image of the company
  • Recycling/re-use of materials/energy efficiency/daylighting
  • Security of staff with card access points as required
  • Collaboration space for formal and informal meetings
  • Incorporation of technology including wireless access and various media capabilities
  • Shared and flexible spaces

The project is located within a 23,000-square-foot, one-story existing brick building located adjacent to company’s current manufacturing facility. The owner would like to keep the exterior skin of the building in place to maintain the heritage and historical value of the building, which was originally constructed in 1929. The interior space of the building includes areas of exposed brick, original hardwood floors and an open ceiling with exposed structural elements.

Please use the specific program requirements provided for the personnel areas. The program for the support spaces provided is somewhat flexible and can be altered at your discretion. What components do you believe would best support the environment? Please explain in your concept statement why you included the program elements and how they will support the workforce in meeting the company’s needs.

The building floor plan has been provided. All elements shown including entry/exit points and columns must remain. The clear floor-to-ceiling height is 16’-0”
