ALPHARETTA, GA – Hansgrohe now offers both bath and kitchen products that are compliant with California’s new Green Building Standards Code, CALGreen; the strictest in the nation.
Set into effect on Jan. 1 of this year, the CALGreen standards require all new buildings in the state to be more energy-efficient. Under the code, a newly installed shower system equipped with one or more water points must not exceed a combined flow rate of 2.0 GPM. CALGreen also mandates that newly installed kitchen faucets do not exceed a 1.8 GPM flow rate.
Russ Wheeler, president of Hansgrohe North America, remarks, “Since these low flow showerheads and kitchen faucets, along with shower mixing valves already existed in our product line, we were able to offer solutions immediately after the Jan. 1 effective date. We are pleased that we are able to provide products that help our California customers meet the mandatory CALGreen requirements in the shower and kitchen areas.”
Starting with the shower, Hansgrohe’s Thermostatic Trims with Volume Control and Diverters offer California builders, developers, architects and contractors an impeccably designed and engineered product that will meet the regulation’s water output limit requirements for one or multi-showerhead/spray shower stalls. It is available in contemporary (S), transitional (E) and traditional (C) styles, a model to suit any taste when paired with Hansgrohe low-flow showerheads. Their default functionality makes CALGreen code compliance possible, because it permits only one of the showerheads or handshowers to run at one time. They are equipped with cutting-edge features like an Anti-Scald 100° Safety Stop, which prevents water temperature from exceeding 100°F, protecting against harmful scalding. The trims also boast a Thermostatic Temperature Control Preset, so that users may choose their preferred water temperature to within ±1°F. The valves work in conjunction with Hansgrohe’s innovative iBox Universal Plus, one of the most advanced rough-in systems on the market. Of course, Hansgrohe’s full line of one function valves, if coupled with a 2.0 GPM or under shower product, will also be compliant with CALGreen as they are designed to work with just one feature. In addition, to complement the S, E, C two-feature and one-feature valves California builders and green-minded consumers can choose from Hansgrohe’s wide range of 2.0 GPM-or-under WaterSense certified shower products in different styles for a variety of low-flow, high-performance options.
In the kitchen, Hansgrohe’s state-of-the-art 1.5 GPM faucets will also meet CALGreen standards. They are the Talis S HighArc Kitchen, the Talis S Kitchen, the Talis C HighArc Kitchen, as well as the Allegro E Gourmet HighArc Kitchen, SemiArc Kitchen and Kitchen models. The Talis S, Talis C and Alergro E represent a wide range of styles and feature M2 ceramic cartridges and ergonomic pull-out or pull-down spouts that are capable of swiveling 150°. The fixtures are available in chrome or steel optik. The Talis C faucet also comes in a rubbed bronze finish. For added convenience, Hansgrohe produces a conversion kit that comes with a 1.5 GPM check valve and a 1.5 GPM aerator that will adapt any Hansgrohe kitchen faucet to a 1.5 GPM flow rate fixture.
This news comes just in time for the CALGreen Academy, Green California Summit, in Sacramento from April 19- 20. The CALGreen Academy will offer multiple training sessions on CALGreen requirements, covering everything from energy efficiency to green purchasing. California customers should also be aware that most of Hansgrohe’s kitchen fixtures are compliant with California and Vermont’s low-lead legislation, which limits the lead content of plumbing fittings and fixtures intended to convey or dispense water for human consumption.
