CHICAGO—The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is pleased to announce the winners of two of the Association’s prestigious interior design competitions: the 38th annual Interior Design Competition and the 19th annual Will Ching Design Competition. The winners demonstrate the remarkable breadth of project types that design can touch, and yet share a common ability to challenge our thinking and inspire our ambitions. They represent the highest quality and impact of interior design.
The six winners in the 38th annual Interior Design Competition were chosen from almost 400 projects submitted in the following practice areas: Commercial, Education/Institutional, Government, Healthcare, Hospitality, Residential and Retail/Showroom. The six winners were:
- Clive Wilkinson Architects in West Hollywood, Calif. for One Shelley Street in Sydney, Australia
- Aidlin Darling Design in San Francisco, Calif. for Bar Agricole in San Francisco, Calif.
- Gabellini Sheppard Associates LLP in New York City for the David Yurman Townhouse in New York City
- Gensler in San Francisco, Calif. for Nokia in Sunnyvale, Calif.
- ZGF Architects LLP in Portland, Ore. for the John E. Jaqua Academic Center for Student Athletes at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.

In addition, the San Francisco Patient and Resource Center (SPARC) in San Francisco, Calif., designed by Sand Studios in San Francisco, Calif. was chosen as the winner of the 19th annual Will Ching Design Competition, which honors outstanding commercial design by firms of five or fewer individuals.
“Innovation and excellence in design were at the cornerstone of the winners of this year’s IDC/WC awards,” says IIDA President Viveca Bissonnette, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, CID, LEED AP, who oversaw the judging process. “A wide range of diversity in the design projects submitted by the IIDA membership and by international design firms was reflected in the almost 400 entries that were received from around the globe in all areas of practice.”
Judges for the distinguished competition included Anita Barnett, FIIDA; Carl D'Aquino of D'Aquino Monaco; Stanford Hughes, IIDA, of Brayton & Hughes Design Studio; and David Grout of Garry Lee Partners. The judging took place February 26, 2011 in Chicago.
