MUSCATINE, IA— Allsteel Inc. has added a new option to its portfolio of products with the recent accreditation to manufacture using wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
To qualify for this latest status, Allsteel’s manufacturing facilities and procedures had to undergo a rigorous third-party audit, which was conducted by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). Attaining the FSC certification promotes the use of responsibly harvested wood as it passes through the supply chain from forest to milling and on to use in finished products. Allsteel is incorporating the FSC-certified wood into the construction of its products, such as its Stride office sytems, based upon individual job specifications.
“It is important to us to be a part of the process to improve global forestry practices,” says Keri Luly, Allsteel’s Sustainability Programs Manager. “This recent focus on the source of raw materials clearly indicates a monumental shift in thinking for the building and design community. We need to be conscious of the environmental impacts of products before they are even produced.”
