The increasing cost of electricity and of grid disruptions after events like Hurricane Sandy are fueling an emerging industry around microgrids. Based on individual power grids with local generation and load shifting from alternative sources (PV solar, generators, storage and fuel cells), microgrids can be tailored to meet the specified power needs of buildings and clusters of buildings. Find out what facility managers and building owners need to know about microgrids and “islanding” capability and how to prepare for the future.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand the components of microgrids and islanding capability.
  • Learn how buildings can become grid service providers.
  • Understand how microgrids can improve sustainability.
  • Recognize the potential benefits of integrating microgrid features into mixed-use and other commercial buildings.

Presenter

John F. Kelly
