‘Who’s Who’ at Buildings

.

I distinctly recall Buildings magazine’s first “who’s who” listing of industry players. The date was September 1982, and I was a junior member of the editorial staff – a true industry neophyte who was attempting to learn about not only the uniqueness of each of our reader market segments (private ownership/development, third-party management, corporate real estate, institutional ownership, and government agencies), but also about the entrepreneurs and innovators who were changing the landscape of the buildings marketplace.

Over the years, I’ve seen the names in our annual coverage morph into a recognizable hybrid of former luminaries or absorbed into the inner workings of relative newcomers. Of course, the whiz-ards – the long-standing masters of our market – have not only survived, but thrived, continuing to define the subtle nuances that exist between risk-taking and risk-breaking, achiever and non-performer, vision and folly. Portfolio size remains a potent definer of many of these organizations, but more often than not, “A-List” players – large and small – make their mark through perception, ingenuity, and agility. Not surprisingly, the leaders of these companies – the visionaries who are widely acknowledged and revered for their success – wisely point to their teams as the rationale and sole justification for their prosperity.

Buildings is at the brink of a monumental anniversary: In 2006, our team celebrates 100 years as your first information resource to the buildings market. Creative, dedicated, fun, knowledgeable, and approachably professional, the Buildings team of talented individuals – strong, focused, separate contributors – perfect each Buildings media product as only a well-blended team can, combining ideals, honesty, and purpose with perception, ingenuity, and agility.

As you peruse this month’s issue – and our 23rd annual listing of industry leaders and innovators – don’t miss the chance to browse through the listing of industry associates on the right-hand side of this page. They are the Buildings team – and “A-List” representatives, every one.
