Ware Malcomb Names New Engineering Regional Manager

Sonia Sorensen

Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, announced that Sonia Sorensen has joined the firm as engineering regional manager. In this position, Sorensen oversees client relationships, staff management, and the overall growth of Ware Malcomb's Civil Engineering practice across its offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Irvine, Calif. corporate headquarters.

Sorensen brings nearly 20 years of experience to her new role at Ware Malcomb, including all facets of civil engineering and land surveying, hydraulic and design engineering, and project management. Most recently Sorensen ran her own engineering and environmental consulting business with clients including Southern California Edison, Glendale Water & Power, and Glendale Public Works.

She worked for Southern California Edison for over a decade, first as a program manager/engineer where she managed and designed numerous civil and environmental engineering projects, and later as a consultant serving as project manager. Sorensen began her career as a hydraulic engineer for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, where she conducted hydrology and hydraulic studies for the world’s largest public engineering, design and construction management agency.

“Sonia’s skill as an engineer, combined with her success in project management and business development, make her an ideal candidate to lead and grow our civil engineering practice in Southern California,” said Michael Murphy, Ware Malcomb director of civil engineering. “We welcome her to the talented team at Ware Malcomb and look forward to her many contributions in the years ahead.”

Sorensen earned her bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. A Registered Professional Engineer, she is also Southern California Edison Project Management Certified, Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Developer (QSD) licensed, and 40-Hr Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certified.
