Mississippi Enacts Its First Statewide Building Code Law

Mississippi enacts its first set of building codes.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed Senate Bill 2378 into law, effectively enacting the state’s first building code.

This landmark legislation will require Mississippi cities and counties to adopt any of the last three editions of the International Building Code, as a minimum standard, as well as any additional codes as decided by the Mississippi Building Code Council.

Many hail the law as a victory for mitigating natural disaster damage.

According to the International Code Council, the law takes effect August 1, 2014.
