Tis the season for wrapping up! This month, we're taking a look back on the highlights of 2013 and tying them up in a neat little bow—and not without the help of our readers.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our 5th annual Readers' Choice Products awards. Over 3,500 votes are in, and our special Sources section features your favorite products across 14 categories. Congratulations to the winning manufacturers!

Of course, the moments we take to reflect on the past also present new opportunities to prepare for the future. We make resolutions, forecast trends, launch new business and financial strategies, and define new goals for the upcoming year.
As hesitant as I am to predict the future (lest we have to go back and burn the issue archives when I'm wrong!), our state of the industry report paints a temptingly sunny picture of what may lie ahead. Let's just call it a hopeful wish that 2014 will be a notably busy and prosperous year.
Billings and revenue aside, I hope that 2014 will be marked by further strides into the consumer consciousness. As we saw in 2013 with the unveiling of NYCxDESIGN, growing support for the active design movement, and a flurry of tech corridors and neighborhood revitalization programs driven by community stakeholders, end users are becoming increasingly design savvy and interested in the A+D world. And that is a beautiful thing.
Therein lies my New Year's resolution (aside from avoiding the bar at silent charity auctions): to tell our industry's story in a way that resonates not only with you the design professionals, but also your clients and end users. When we go so deep in the woods of our day-to-day work, it is important to step back and appreciate the landscape we're helping to shape. As ASID President Rachelle Schoessler Lynn says in her column this month, "design is never neutral—it can either help or hurt." If we can convey the importance of our work from a higher vantage, we broaden the design conversation and elevate our role as an industry able to make the world a better place.
