Inspired by the architecture of the office as well as the area’s hilly geographical profile, designers Ajax Law Ling Kit and Virginia Lung of the Hong Kong-based firm One Plus Partnership went minimal but big in their mountain-themed design for the Chongqing Mountain & City Sales Office in Chongqing’s Nanshan District.
The 1,600-square-meter space (about 17,222 square feet) features a grand slanted wall and a marble floor pattern comprised of sharp, triangular forms. Irregularly shaped reception counters dot the floor area like boulders, while their gold champagne-colored facades provide the sole pop of color in the office, which has been cast in varying shades of gray to capture the natural aesthetic of mountain stone.
Long, thin LED tube fixtures hang from the ceiling, mimicking the feeling of rain falling on the rocks below and softening the angular concept used throughout the rest of the space. The mountain theme has even been extended to the stairwells, which recreate the sensation of passing through a cave. The result is a stunning conceptual space that has already captured the imagination of the international design community, and promises to win the business of clients all over China.
