IIDA Announces 2011 Student Sustainable Design Competition

CHICAGO—The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and InterfaceFLOR are pleased to announce the ninth annual IIDA Student Sustainable Design Competition. The competition was created to celebrate and encourage sustainable design and to award individuals who demonstrated consistent, creative incorporation and the understanding of sustainable principles.

Entries to the competition will be accepted online from Oct. 18 through Nov. 13. The first place winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize, and a special feature on the IIDA Student Blog and IIDA website. The second place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and will also be featured on the IIDA Student Blog. Judges will select winners that showcase originality and creativity, incorporate sustainability and will consider the public vote on the project.

In addition to the judges’ selections for first and second place awards, IIDA is opening up the competition to virtual promotions by entrants, and will select a People’s Choice Award Winner, who will receive an Apple iPad and free student membership. Visitors can vote on the website for the People's Choice Award between Nov.1 and Nov. 27, 2011.

The judges for this year’s competition will include: Marc Herndon, IIDA, RNL, Denver, Co.; Robert Moylan, IIDA, SmithGroup, Washington D.C.; and Mary Helen Pratte, FIIDA, Studio Works, Austin, Texas.
