ASID Announces GO PRO: NYC Weekend of Events

Networking and educational opportunities, to be held September 16-17, will be tailored for emerging professionals in the design industry

 
ASID Announces GO PRO: NYC weekend of events

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) introduces GO PRO: NYC, a weekend of events tailored specifically for emerging professionals in the interior design industry. The two-day event will kick-off on Friday, Sept. 16 with a tour of the New York Times Building and continue through Saturday, Sept. 17 with a series of expert panels on topics including professional advancement, product development and pro bono work.

The full schedule is as follows:

PROject – New York Times Building Tour

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the environmentally sustainable New York Times Building with FXFOWLE Architects. A reception will follow in the offices of Covington & Burling, featuring 360-degree panoramic views of Manhattan. Hosted by the ASID New York Metro Chapter.

Friday, September 16 from 4-7 p.m.

PROduct – Joe Carini of CariniLang

Famed carpet designer Joe Carini of CariniLang will share his experience working with Nepalese weavers and creating innovative maps of New York at his exquisite showroom.

Saturday, September 17 from 9-10:30 a.m.

PRO Bono Work – The Role of the Design Community

John Cary, author of The Power of Pro Bono will lead a discussion on the responsibility of the design community to take an activist stance and embrace pro bono work. A case study will be explored on the Harlem-based Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS) facility—an organization that empowers young women who have been sexually exploited.

The event will close with an opportunity to mingle, dance and dine with design professionals from across all sectors.

GO PRO: NYC expects to attract emerging designers from Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and unite like-minded professionals for a weekend of inspirational and celebratory programs.
