41 Paimio Armchair by Artek

 

The 41 Paimio armchair by Artek is named after a town in Finland for which designer Alvar Aalto designed a tuberculosis sanatorium and all its furnishings. Used in the patients’ lounge, the angle of the back of this chair was intended to help sitters breathe more easily, and contained no creases, making it easier to clean. The armrests feature a natural lacquered finish, while the Paimio’s seat is lacquered in black or white.
