Laminated and Tempered Glass Market to Near $5 Billion by 2011

New York /PRNewswire/ - Building on the growing demand for value-added glass products, the laminated and tempered glass market for residential and nonresidential construction is expected to clear $4.8 billion in the United States by 2011, according to "Laminated and Tempered Glass Market in the U.S.," a new report from market research publisher SBI, a division of MarketResearch.com.

Based on worldwide growth patterns in the flat glass market-which grew nearly 10 percent in the last two years-as well as growth in the construction sector, which accounts for 69 percent of the flat glass market, SBI projects that U.S. demand for laminated and tempered glass will continue to escalate.

Increased safety, better energy efficiency and greater noise attenuation capabilities continue to influence the market, leading SBI to anticipate the laminated glass sector will grow by 5 percent: from $1.8 billion in 2007 to approximately $2.3 billion in 2011. Similarly, SBI forecasts that tempered glass will grow 6 percent, from $2 billion to $2.5 billion.

Major driving factors for this growth in "value-added" glass products-products that begin as basic flat glass and undergo numerous treatment processes to improve strength, noise reduction, energy conservation, and safety-include increased consumer awareness of these benefits and recent architectural trends, including greater demand for curved, low-emissivity, and coated tempered glass.

"The use of cost-effective, energy-efficient measures in building construction can reduce the U.S.'s overall energy consumption by approximately 33 percent," says Tatjana Meerman, managing editor of SBI. "Nonresidential construction industry growth, energy-efficient building requirements, and safety and acoustic features offered by laminated and tempered glass will help heat up market growth over the next four years."
